This past weekend I was able to attend Toruk - The First Flight at the XL Center. What an amazing show! I've always loved the movie Avatar, but seeing Toruk-The First Flight live at the XL Center was truly something special. I actually felt like I was on Pandora and living the life of an Avatar. So cool!
Inspired by James Cameron’s AVATAR, TORUK – The First Flight transports you to the world of Pandora in a visually stunning live setting. We experienced a storytelling odyssey through a new world of imagination, discovery, and possibility.
There are two things that stood out to me. First, was the acrobatics of the performers and the staging. Not only are they doing amazing aerial flips, turns and jumps, but they're doing it all in amazing costumes that have tails! The performers truly are athletes, and I was memorized with every move. Not only did the performers set the mood, but the staging and stage setup was out of this world! They had cutting-edge visuals, puppetry and stagecraft buoyed by a soaring cinematic score, Cirque du Soleil applies its unique signature style to James Cameron’s imaginary world and “makes the bond” between two kindred artistic visions that capture the imagination. The entire set came to life through colors, movement and staging. If you haven't been to a Cirque Du Soleil show before definitely plan to go next time they're in Hartford!
Second, the story is beautiful. The show is all about two brothers who're going through the process of coming-of-age. They have a bond that no one can break. Throughout their journey they make a new friend who becomes close to them, she becomes a part of their family. They go on a journey together to save what is most important to them and their family. The reason this stuck with me is because being one of four siblings it made me think of what I would be willing to do for my family. Would I be able to help my family in our most time of need? I hope so! It was really great to see a show that had family and relationships be a primary focus.
